When we replaced our old downdraft slide-in range, I soon realized that there simply weren't any good choices on the market for replacing it with a new downdraft. This created a need to install some kind of vent system over the peninsula location of our new slide-in range. I finally settled on Hauslane and have been pleased so far. The fan is not too loud (on the lower setting), it looks great, and it does a good job of getting steam, smoke, and cooking odors out of the house. I elected to vent out through the roof rather than recirculate through a filter. This added to the expense, but I believe it is the best choice.
I also elected to hire someone to install the vent as I had other projects to conquer and installation required the addition of an outlet and extra support in the rafters.
The only issue we have encountered is the glass corners of the vent are right at head level. We have a 30" range, but elected to get the 36" vent hood. We'll get used to it eventually, but tall users should be aware that you'll probably smack your head on it a few times when when working to the side of the vent hood.
