8-Step Kitchen Range Installation Checklist

If you've stumbled across this article, you've either just purchased a new kitchen range or you're getting ready to install one.
For those thinking about purchasing a range, take a look at the article we published on installation requirements. For those who have already purchased a range, read through this checklist and consult your user manual.
Here's a PDF of the checklist that you can download and either print or use in digital form. If you use the digital version, you can check off each box with a mouse click.
Important: Anyone doing a kitchen remodel to accommodate a new range should read our article on state building codes for ranges.
Can you install your own range?
In most cases, the answer is yes. However, if your project involves electrical rewiring, making changes to the gas line, or anything you don't feel comfortable doing, there's no shame in hiring a licensed contractor.
Did you purchase a HausPro range from Hauslane? If so, you can download the user manual (which includes an installation guide) here:

Step #1: Pre-installation checks (before you start)
Before you take your new range out of the box, it's not a bad idea to double-check your measurements one last time.
Make sure the area is wide enough (slightly larger than the width of the unit) so you can slide it in without damaging the counters or the range. You'll also want to ensure the floor is level and that it's strong enough to support the weight of the new unit. Next, confirm that the delivery path is clear of obstacles and that the unit can fit through doorways, hallways, and around tight corners.
Key Gas & Connection Items
Gas and dual fuel ranges require the following items before installation.
- New gas connector (flexible connector recommended)
- Compatible fittings/adapters (ensure they match your home's gas line size and type)
- Manual gas shut-off valve
- Pipe-joint compound or gas-rated thread sealant
- Leak detection solution (or a soap-and-water solution)
Gather Basic Tools
Here's a list of some basic tools you'll need to gather before installing your new range, but this is not an exhaustive list. Check your installation guide to see all the items you'll want on hand.
- Tape measure
- Level
- Adjustable wrench or pliers
- Screwdriver (Phillips or flathead)
- Other tools listed in your user's manual
Inspect the Unit
Before installation, carefully inspect the range to make sure everything is in proper working condition:
- Check for any visible exterior damage from shipping
- Ensure all parts and accessories are included
- Plug in the unit briefly to confirm that basic functions (such as lights or control panel) are working
Do not proceed with installation if the unit appears damaged or incomplete—contact the seller or manufacturer for support.
Ensure Pathway and Fit Checklist
- Ensure the area is wide enough to accommodate the new range
- Check the floor with a level to ensure it's even
- Ensure the floor is strong enough to support the unit
- Clear the delivery path

Step #2: Power & fuel readiness
Make sure your unit has the proper fuel supply available in your kitchen. If not, you'll either have to return it or upgrade your kitchen. Do not begin your installation if your kitchen isn't yet equipped to handle your range.
If you don't have access to a natural gas line, some Hauslane ranges can be converted to use liquid propane gas (LPG). This process involves modifying internal components (such as nozzles) and must be done according to the instructions in the user manual. If you're unsure, it's best to have a qualified professional perform the conversion.
Important: Check outlet location and clearance
Make sure your electrical outlet is positioned correctly so the range can sit flush against the wall. If the outlet is placed too high or directly behind the unit, the power cord may block the range from sliding fully into place.
Before installation, check your product specifications and user manual for the recommended outlet location and clearance requirements. If needed, a licensed electrician can relocate the outlet, or you may use a low-profile (flat head) power cord where appropriate.
Your requirements will vary based on your range type, so find your correct checklist below.
Gas Range Checklist
- 110 V outlet access (for ignition and controls)
- Natural gas supply line (unless you're using liquid propane gas tanks)
Dual-Fuel Oven Checklist
- 220 V outlet for electrical power
- Natural gas supply line (unless you're using liquid propane gas tanks)
- 40–50 amp circuit
- Dedicated breaker
Electric/Induction Oven Checklist
- 220 V outlet
- 40-50 amp circuit
- Dedicated breaker
Step #3: Check height and stability
Make sure your range is flush with the cabinets by adjusting the leveling legs (if applicable). You'll also want to double-check the floor stability and attach the anti-tip bracket. These steps are essential for safety.
Leveling and Stability Checklist
- Adjust leveling legs (you can adjust Hauslane ranges between 36 to 37-½" (countertop alignment) or 37-½" to 39" (the total height measurement from floor to top of grates))
- Double-check floor stability
- Install the anti-tip bracket
Step #4: Positioning the range
Now it's time to slide your range into its spot and ensure reasonable alignment with the cabinets and countertops. You'll also want to make sure you've got plenty of room to move around the kitchen.
It doesn't have to be a perfectly even fit, but you don't want a serious mismatch. If it's significantly off, check the seller's return policy and see if you can return it. Hauslane offers a 30-day return policy on all HausPro ranges (see details).
Important: If your range isn't perfectly flush with the countertops, you can often adjust the height. Hauslane ranges come with adjustable legs, which run from 36 to 37-½" tall (the height measurement of countertop alignment).
Range Positioning Checklist
- Slide the range into place carefully
- Ensure the range is flush with cabinets
- Ensure the range is not protruding too far
- Check alignment with countertops
- Confirm door clearance
- Ensure proper clearance for safety (i.e., there is enough space between the cabinets and the cooktop)
You can also check with a contractor or your local code office to ensure compliance with state building codes.
Step #5: Connect utilities
At this stage, you'll connect the power sources. To be sure there aren't any leaks on the gas connection, you can mix a little dish soap with water and apply it to the gas line and connections.
If there's a leak when you turn the gas line on (which you'll do briefly, without igniting anything), bubbles should form. If there are no bubbles and you look closely, leaks are unlikely.
Utilities Connection Checklist
- Plug in electrical connection(s)
- Connect the gas line or propane tanks
- Use a flexible connector
- Tighten properly
- Use the soap test for leak detection
Step #6: Range test run
Now it's time to give the range a test run to make sure everything works properly. If anything is off with the electrical elements or you smell a gas leak that you can't fix by adjusting the connection, call a professional.
Range Test Run Checklist
Note: Before your test run, ensure that the burner caps are properly installed and aligned. Improper placement may prevent the burner from lighting.
- Turn on burners and heating elements to check for:
- Proper ignition (gas)
- Even heating (electric)
- Test the oven for:
- Proper preheating
- Temperature consistency
- Check for:
- Gas smell
- Error codes
- Unusual noises
Step #7: Final safety check (double-checking key elements)
Step #7 is the final safety check. It may feel redundant, but safety is essential.
Final Safety Checklist
- Ensure anti-tip bracket is secure
- Make sure gas connections are properly secured
- Verify that the range hood covers the entire cooking area
- Make sure the range is level and stable
If you find your range hood doesn't cover at least the length and width of the cooking area, you'll want to upgrade. Hauslane has a vast selection of range hoods with powerful blowers and top-of-the-line features, and we've written a straightforward guide to help you find the right range hood.
When to Call a Professional
If you run into challenges during the installation process, consult a professional. A contractor should also be involved if you need to:
- Modify the gas line
- Make electrical upgrades
- Modify the ventilation ductwork
Also, if you feel uncomfortable performing any of the tasks outlined in this checklist, it's best to consult a professional. Once you're confident that your range is working properly, you'll be set up for years of culinary joy.
